Chapter 123 - 123 My Heart Aches for You
The video continued to play, and Qiao Xin’s side profile could be seen in a small corner of the screen. Everyone understood what Qiao Yu was saying. If the video was leaked, wouldn’t it be as good as poking the hornet’s nest?
One by one, the students stepped forward and deleted the video in front of Qiao Yue. Xu Hao did not immediately leave upon deleting the video. Instead, he regarded Qiao Yue with a measure of excitement.
“Qiao Yue, you must’ve learned martial arts before. Let’s exchange a few moves when you’ve recovered!”
Qiao Yue chuckled. “Alright.”
There was no harm in agreeing. Even if she decided against it, that would be a concern for later.
The pudgy class representative waddled up to Qiao Yue, his round face beaming brightly, “Qiao Yue, you did a great job. You’re a hero for saving those that needed saving. Although we can’t openly celebrate because of Wang Yi’s family, you’re still the hero of our hearts.”
The class representative spoke exaggeratedly, which made Qiao Yue laugh.
Qiao Yue knew the class representative worried she would injure herself further if she continued to save people. While she was disappointed that there would not be any reward for her heroics, she was happy that her stunt would not push her into the limelight. Otherwise, wouldn’t school become even more troublesome than it already was?
Since it was getting late, Qiao Yue’s classmates bade farewell in twos and threes. A short while later, Qiao Jing entered. Seeing Qiao Yu influencing Qiao Yue to play games with him, Qiao Jing’s expression fell, and he drove Qiao Yu out of the ward.
Qiao Yue smiled happily at Qiao Jing, only to receive a smack on her head.
“Why are you smiling so goofily?” Qiao Jing teased as he ruffled Qiao Yue’s hair.
The smile on her lips remained. It felt good being cared for.
In the past, Qiao Yue kept everything to herself, afraid to let anyone know she was injured. It was her first time receiving the care and support she needed from those around her.
Qiao Jing’s eyes flashed with a hint of heartache. He silently set the table and laid out dinner.
“What’s wrong?” Qiao Yue asked, concerned by Qiao Jing’s abrupt silence.
Qiao Jing looked up with mixed feelings. “I just thought it would be better to bring you home sooner.”
Qiao Yue fell silent as she processed Qiao Jing’s words. She did not quite understand what he meant.
Staring at the white hospital sheets, she asked, “Brother, do you pity me?”
“No, it’s just…”
“Just?” Qiao Yue looked up and met Qiao Jing’s gaze.
“My heart aches for you.”
Qiao Jing had not spoken loudly, yet his voice exploded in her ears like the crash of thunder. It certainly sent a jolt coursing through her heart. It was her first time receiving a confession, and her heart hammered to the beat of a drum. Everything was happening so fast and so suddenly that it hurt.
A deep flush travelled up her neck, turning her ears pink, and soon her face sported a matching shade close to that of a ripe peach.
Qiao Yue tried to ignore the sound of her beating heart, frantic in its pulsations. “Brother, you… You sound like a homosexual.”
Qiao Yue’s reaction dispersed Qiao Jing’s embarrassment, filling him with smiles and laughter.
“You think I’m gay?” Qiao Jing parroted softly. Swift as a lark, he grabbed hold of Qiao Yue and drew her close to him. “If anything, this is gay.”
Qiao Yue’s breath caught in her throat. Qiao Jing’s delicate features, deep, black eyes, high nose, and luscious lips closed in on her, almost teasingly. But what attracted Qiao Yue most was his skin. It was as smooth as jade with nary a pore in sight. It was so tempting she wanted nothing more than to touch and feel him against her skin.
However, Qiao Yue’s plan fell through. As soon as she leaned into his arms, she pulled away, gasping in pain.
Qiao Jing’s brows furrowed, and worry clouded his sight. “Be careful…”
“Brother, it’s your fault for teasing me!” Qiao Yue pouted, a little displeased.
Qiao Jing chuckled helplessly. “Okay, okay. It was my fault. Don’t move.”
“Yes.” Qiao Yue nodded with her nose upturned.
Once bitten, twice shy, Qiao Yue finished her dinner with Qiao Jing’s help.
Qiao Yue watched Qiao Jing clean up after the meal and said, “Brother, the nurses can handle the rest. You still have your work to do.”
Qiao Jing put the cutlery aside and helped Qiao Yue back to the bed.
“I’ll have the nurses clean up the rest. You need to sleep.”
Qiao Yue felt her mouth twitch. Her brother was really good. To think he would expect her to sleep right after eating. Wasn’t he afraid she would get indigestion?
“Brother, I just ate. Shouldn’t I get some exercise before bed?” Qiao Yue looked at Qiao Jing expectantly.
